Large Old Lace Fuses wooden spindles.
Here is a batch of 10 old lace wooden spindles used by the sertors.
Unlike embroidery or other techniques, the manufacture of lace requires a specific material including wooden spindles. They can be made in many woods. They can be pear, pine, rosewood, beech, etc.
In the past in France, in the Haute-Loire region, lacemakers "made couvige" in the villages. They gathered outside a barn in the summer and indoors in the winter, and made lace by singing, chatting or praying.
Most of the time the lace tile was made on the farm. Each lacemaker personalized it by adding precious images such as those of the Virgin, saints or Saint Francis Regis.
Even today, enthusiasts make lace and use these little spindles that we hear clicking during the work...
For a beautiful chic shabby decoration!
